Release of Indigenously Developed Certified Reference Material (CRM) of Dolomite – BARC B1101
An indigenously developed Certified Reference Material (CRM) of Dolomite — (BARC B1101) was released by Shri K.N. Vyas, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) on 9th November, 2021 for its use in various research and academic institutes within the country for development and validation of suitable analytical methods, calibration of instruments and quality control.
The Dolomite CRM has been prepared in accordance with the ISO guidelines jointly by Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD) and National Centre for Compositional Characterisation of Materials (NCCCM), BARC, Hyderabad. CRMs play a pivotal role in ensuring both precision and accuracy of the analytical measurements, thus validating the analytical procedure. “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, the concept towards self-reliance was the key motivation behind this exercise. It is also planned to continue this activity in future to produce other cost-effective CRMs, as was done on earlier instances by BARC.
The cost of similar CRMs, available commercially, is about three times higher and as a result, difficult to regularly procure, especially for analytical laboratories in universities, research institutes and industries. The indigenous product, Dolomite CRM — (BARC B1101, 50 gm. packing) is priced at Rs.15,000/- and will be easily available to users. The starting material was sourced by AMD from Tumallapalle area, YSR district, Andhra Pradesh.
