Mr. President,
I thank you, for giving me the floor.
India values, the essential role of IAEA, in assisting countries, to build human and institutional capacities, including regulatory capabilities, for the safe, secure and peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology.
Mr. President,
IAEA’s activities, in the field of technical cooperation and nuclear applications, contribute, in an important way, to meeting energy needs, improving human and animal health, developing agriculture, managing the use of water resources and optimizing industrial processes, thus helping to improve, the quality of life and the well-being, of the people of the world.
India welcomes and supports the technical co-operation programmes by seconding experts and offering training in the Agency’s flagship initiatives, cutting across, different areas, of nuclear science and technology, such as
- “Atomic Technologies Licensed for Application at Sea (ATLAS)” – Nuclear Power for Maritime Sector,
- “Rays of Hope” for cancer control,
- “ZODIAC” for strengthening capacities, to respond to zoonotic disease outbreaks and
- “NUTEC Plastics” for addressing plastic marine pollution. We also appreciate, the support extended, by IAEA to Member States in response to natural disasters, outbreaks as well as emergency situations.
Mr. President,
- As a country, with advanced nuclear technology, India has made significant achievements, in the area of nuclear power and research applications, in the recent period
- In April 2026, the 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam achieved criticality, making India only the second country in the world to do so.
- In June 2026, the world’s, first nuclear process-heat-based, Hydrogen production was demonstrated in Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR).
- During the last year, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), achieved, total electricity generation of 55,190 Million Units, with an overall Plant Load Factor of 80%. NPCIL also, continued to maintain its impeccable safety record, accumulating more than 660 reactor years’ experience of safe operation.
- In the area of Health Care, the Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) under DAE, continued to provide, affordable and cutting edge Cancer Care, and developed cooperation with its Neighbourhood under the BIMSTEC framework for healthcare professional from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar, as well as discussions with BRICS Member States on nuclear medicine regulatory issues.
Mr. President,
- Our long association with IAEA, finds a special expression this year, through India chairing the Regional Cooperative Agreement for Research, Development and Training, Related to Nuclear Science and Technology (RCA).
- Under the banner, of Vishwa Bandhu Bharat – meaning, India as a friend to the world, – we are deepening collaborative research, technology dissemination, and human resource development across the Asia-Pacific region.
- India’s chairmanship of RCA is a reaffirmation, of our strong commitment to South-South cooperation and to ensuring that the benefits of nuclear science reach every nation that seeks them.
Mr. President,
- Let me conclude, by appreciating the dynamic role, played by the IAEA, in guiding peaceful uses of nuclear energy and ensuring nuclear safety and security. We look forward, to the Agency’s, continued support to member states, for providing a conducive atmosphere, for the growth of nuclear science and technology.
- As a responsible nuclear power, with advanced technology, India remains committed, to expand peaceful applications of nuclear technology, both, in the power and non-power sectors, while ensuring the security of nuclear and radiological materials.
- India has a robust, nuclear safety culture and impeccable safety record and will continue to support the Agency, in its efforts to provide a robust, sustainable and visible, global nuclear safety and security framework.
Thank you.
