Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

Diamond Jubilee Celebrations 21st November 2014
Sixty years of long and memorable journey! Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee this year. Set up, on 3rd August, 1954, DAE completed six decades of remarkable performance, bearing in mind the noble initiative taken by Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, the founding father of atomic energy programme in India. Right from the inception of the atomic energy programme, the ultimate focus has been to improve the quality of life of the people of our country. Self-sufficiency in the Energy sector being the first step for ensuring quality of life and sustaining the development process, unambiguously and undoubtedly, DAE has left no stones unturned to ensure focus and action for improving power generation. Today, we can say with pride, that every decade, we have added one or more new research or power reactors to our kitty. Not even a single decade has passed when we have not added a new reactor.
This is also an apt time to recall the commendable contributions made by all the constituent units, aided institutions, public sector undertakings of DAE for making it a self-reliant organisation in many prime sectors like research and development, exploration, mining, fuel assembly, heavy water production, nuclear waste management, reprocessing & recycling, procurement, estate management etc. Their contributions towards societal benefits deserve a special mention here.  Stepping into the seventh decade this year, we can proudly say that the power of nuclear energy has given ray of hope to the public in many sectors. Starting from the basic requirement of energy, we have touched the life of common man in many ways – agriculture, food irradiation, healthcare, industrial applications etc. These are just few to begin counting.
Today, Department of Atomic Energy can be highlighted as one of the unique departments of the Government of India, which has under one roof, multiple facilities catering to almost all the needs of employee and their families. Right from primary school to Ph.D level, DAE provides state-of-the-art education in its schools of various levels. Most of the Units provide a safe a comfortable environment to the new borns and toddlers. A robust health scheme takes care of the health of the employees and their family. Most of the employees live in well-landscaped and environment friendly campuses. Transport facilities are another advantage to its employees and family members. Dedicated training institutes focus on the overall human resource development.
To mark the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, DAE Secretariat employees, along with their family members, presented a cultural evening on 21st November, 2014. The occasion was graced by Dr. R.K. Sinha, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary to Government of India, Additional Secretary and other senior officers from the DAE Secretariat and other dignitaries like Heads of Constituent Units etc.
When we are celebrating our Diamon Jubilee year, Dr. Bhabha’s fond memories pamper us like the fragrance of fresh flowers. On this wonderful occasion, we thank each one who contributed, directly or indirectly.
